Domaine des Maels - Minervois Languedoc-Roussillon

Domaine des Maels - Minervois

Languedoc-Roussillon - Minervois AOP

Vineyard
It was in 2002, after working in Alsace as oenologists, that Morgane and Frédéric Schwertz founded Domaine des Maels, born from the contraction of the first names of their daughters Manon and Elisa. Located on the edge of the Canal du Midi, opposite the village of Argens Minervois, to the south of the Minervois appellation, the vineyard extends over 15 ha on limestone soil with red clay divided into several islets: half in the Minervois appellation and the other half in Pays d'Oc wine. It has been certified in organic farming since 2010. This vintage comes from a blend of several small plots, located on a hill called Montesclat, which means “nice view” in Occitan.

Winemaking
Grenache and Syrah are destemmed. A load shedding follows. For Carignan, the maceration of the whole berries is done at a constant temperature of 27°C. No fining, with filtration before bottling.

Tasting
Rather dark cherry color. This wine offers a floral nose, with toasted and spicy notes. The palate is frank and structured, with a remarkable and persistent finish, on red fruits.
