Unveiling Château de Barbe – Chapelle de Barbe
Nestled in the acclaimed Bordeaux Supérieur AOP zone, Château de Barbe’s Chapelle de Barbe is crafted from a thoughtful blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Its vineyards benefit from optimal sun exposure and a mix of clay, limestone and gravel soils that impart both freshness and depth.
Terroir & Vineyard Practices
Family‐owned since generations, Château de Barbe follows sustainable viticulture with manual harvesting and limited yields. The cool nights and warm days of the Bordeaux climate allow grapes to achieve full phenolic ripeness, while preserving natural acidity.
Winemaking Process
After destemming, the grapes undergo a gentle cold maceration followed by controlled fermentation in stainless steel vats. Malolactic conversion takes place in barrels, and the wine is aged 12–14 months in a combination of French oak barrels (30% new) and seasoned casks to build structure and aromatic complexity.
Tasting Profile
On the nose, expect dark berry fruits—black cherry, cassis—and hints of violet, tobacco leaf and baking spice. The palate is rich yet precise, with supple tannins, vibrant acidity and a persistent finish laced with cocoa and graphite nuances.
Food Pairing Suggestions
This Bordeaux Supérieur shines alongside roast lamb, filet mignon, duck confit or a charcuterie board with aged Gouda and Comté. For vegetarian fare, try it with grilled portobello or hearty mushroom ragù.
