Maison Guigal: A Legacy of Rhône Valley Excellence

Since its founding in 1946 by Étienne Guigal, Maison Guigal has set the standard for premium Rhône Valley wines. From its historic cellars in Ampuis on the Côte Rôtie to its world-class estates in Hermitage and Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the Guigal family continues to combine tradition and innovation to craft some of the most sought-after wines in the world.

Terroir and Grape Varieties

Located in the northern Rhône on steep granitic slopes, the Côte Rôtie vineyards yield powerful Syrah grapes with fresh floral top notes. Further south, the granite and clay soils of Hermitage produce wines of remarkable structure and depth. In Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Guigal’s Grenache and Mourvèdre blends capture sun-baked warmth and Provençal garrigue.

Winemaking & Aging

Hand-harvesting, rigorous sorting and temperature-controlled fermentation ensure purity and balance. Malolactic fermentation takes place in French oak barrels, followed by aging in 30–50% new oak (depending on cuvée) for 18–24 months. This patient approach adds layers of spice, chocolate and toasted almond to the fruit core.

Tasting Profile

Deep ruby to garnet in color, Guigal’s wines boast intense aromas of blackberries, dark cherries and violets, mingled with pepper, cacao and subtle smoky notes. On the palate, they offer velvety tannins, vibrant acidity and a long, mineral-tinged finish.

Food Pairing & Cellaring

Pair Maison Guigal with roast lamb, beef Bourguignon, game birds or aged Comté and Roquefort cheeses. While approachable on release, top cuvées like La Landonne and La Turque reward decades of cellaring, unfolding ever-richer layers of complexity.
