History and Terroir
Founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal, Maison Guigal has become synonymous with world-class Rhône wines. The Côtes du Rhône appellation lies on the eastern bank of the Rhône River, where sun-soaked slopes and well-drained limestone soils impart character and finesse to every vintage.
Winemaking Process
Grapes are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness, then gently crushed and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Aged for several months in neutral oak barrels, the final blend highlights the natural fruit purity and spice notes of each variety.
Tasting Notes
On the nose, expect generous aromas of black cherry, blackberry jam, wild herbs and a hint of black pepper. The palate is richly textured, with silky tannins, fresh acidity and flavors of plum, leather and Provençal garrigue. The finish is long, savory and satisfying.
Food Pairing
This Côtes du Rhône red excels alongside lamb chops, beef tenderloin, ratatouille and hard cheeses such as aged Comté or Manchego. It also complements Mediterranean dishes featuring olives, roasted vegetables and garlic.
Serving and Storage
Serve at 16–18 °C (60–64 °F) in large-bellied glasses to release the bouquet. Best enjoyed within 3–5 years of vintage, though top vintages can age gracefully for up to 8–10 years when stored in a cool, humid cellar.
