The reds, which are the majority, are produced almost exclusively from the Pinot Noir grape variety, which is best expressed in Burgundy, and the whites from the Chardonnay grape variety.
The Côte de Nuits and the Hautes Côtes produce a large majority of red wines. This wine-growing region is thus the paradise of Pinot Noir, which produces most of the Grands Crus of Burgundy.
