Domaine Jourdan - Les Gravinières Vin Rouge Chinon AOP - Val de Loire

The 2022 Domaine Jourdan – Les Gravinières is a refined Chinon AOP made from the Cabernet Franc grape variety. Its ruby color and aromas of ripe red fruits, violets, and flint are immediately captivating.

On the palate, the balance between lively acidity and silky tannins creates an elegant structure. The finish, delicately spicy and mineral, lingers pleasantly. Best served at 16–18 °C with roast lamb, duck breast, or a platter of aged cheeses.

Overview

Produced by the historic Domaine Jourdan, Les Gravinières 2022 is a red Chinon AOP from the heart of the Val de Loire. Made exclusively from hand-harvested Cabernet Franc vines planted on pebbly and clay-limestone soils, this cuvée expresses both freshness and depth, reflecting the unique terroir of Chinon.

Tasting Notes

On the nose, expect vibrant aromas of wild strawberry, red cherry, and subtle floral notes of violet, layered with hints of graphite and crushed stone. The palate is medium-bodied, with ripe red fruit flavors, brisk acidity, and fine-grained tannins that lend structure. A delicate spice and mineral finish lingers, inviting a second glass.

Vineyard and Terroir

The Gravinières vineyard sits on south-facing slopes composed of Kimmeridgian limestone mixed with flint and sandy gravels. This well-drained terrain ensures optimal ripening while preserving vivacity. Vines average 25 years of age, encouraging complexity and concentration.

Winemaking

Grapes are hand-picked at perfect maturity, destemmed, and sorted before a 3-week fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Gentle pump-overs extract refined tannins and aromas. Malolactic fermentation and ageing for 10 months in used French oak barrels add subtle creaminess without overshadowing the pure fruit expression.

Food Pairing

Serve at 16–18 °C alongside roast lamb, duck breast, grilled vegetables, or soft-ripened cheeses. Its bright acidity and refined tannic grip also complement mushroom risottos and charcuterie boards.
