The 2019 Couly Dutheil Les Châtelières Chinon AOP reveals a deep ruby hue and aromas of ripe berries, forest floor and subtle spice. On the palate, it offers a harmonious blend of red cherry, plum and a hint of graphite, framed by smooth, refined tannins.

This medium-bodied red is ideal for pairing with roast lamb, grilled vegetables or aged goat cheese. Serve at 16–18 °C to fully appreciate its lively acidity and lingering finish.

Overview

Couly Dutheil’s Les Châtelières is one of the estate’s flagship bottlings, drawn from century-old Cabernet Franc vines planted on tuffeau and gravely soils in Chinon. The 2019 vintage benefits from a warm summer and balanced ripening, producing a wine that straddles freshness and depth.

Tasting Notes

Color: Deep ruby red with violet highlights.
Nose: Intense aromas of blackberry, wild raspberry and pâte de fruit, accented by tobacco leaf and subtle graphite.
Palate: Medium-bodied and silky, flavors of red plum and cassis evolve into notes of leather and clove. The finish is long, supported by fine, powdery tannins and a mineral undertow.

Winemaking

Grapes are hand-harvested, sorted and partially destemmed before a 21-day fermentation in stainless steel and concrete vats. Gentle pump-overs ensure optimal extraction. Aging takes place for 12 months in a mix of large foudres and used French oak barrels to preserve freshness and terroir expression.
