Region & Terroir
Located in Madiran, within France’s Sud-Ouest appellation, Château Bouscassé benefits from clay-limestone soils that retain heat and promote deep phenolic ripeness in the Tannat vines. The region’s warm days and cool nights foster ideal conditions for developing concentrated flavors and firm natural acidity.
The Tannat Grape
Tannat, the flagship variety of Madiran, is known for its bold structure, deep color and age-worthy potential. In this 2017 expression, Tannat is blended with small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon to add aromatic lift and soften the overall texture.
Winemaking & Aging
After hand harvesting and a gentle maceration, the wine is aged for 12 months in 30% new French oak barrels. This careful maturation imparts vanilla, toast and subtle spice, while preserving the vibrant dark fruit character and firm tannic backbone.
Tasting Profile
Ruby to garnet in the glass, the 2017 Château Bouscassé enchants with ripe blackcurrant, plum, graphite and baking spice on the nose. On the palate, expect rich cassis, licorice and tobacco nuances, framed by polished tannins and bright acidity. The finish is long, savory and mineral-driven.
Food Pairing
Pair this Madiran with grilled lamb chops, cassoulet, braised beef cheeks or aged sheep’s milk cheese. Its robust structure and vibrant acidity make it a flawless companion to hearty, flavor-intense dishes.
