Domaine des Roches Neuves Red Wine Saumur-Champigny
Domaine des Roches Neuves Saumur-Champigny showcases the purity of Cabernet Franc grown on limestone-rich soils along the Loire River. Bright aromas of cherry, raspberry, and wild herbs lead to a palate of fine tannins, vivid acidity, and a mineral-driven finish. This medium-bodied wine is ready to enjoy now or cellar for further complexity, making it a versatile companion for grilled vegetables, charcuterie, and aged cheeses. With organic viticulture, minimal intervention in the cellar, and aging in neutral oak barrels, this Saumur-Champigny expresses both terroir and finesse. The result is a refined, food-friendly red that highlights Loire Valley craftsmanship and terroir expression.
Domaine des Roches Neuves Saumur-Champigny is the flagship red wine of Thierry Germain’s estate in the Loire Valley, capturing the essence of Cabernet Franc from high-density plantings on tuffeau limestone and clay soils. Farming organically and practicing biodynamics, the vineyard yields low volumes of intensely flavored fruit. Grapes are hand-harvested, gently de-stemmed, and fermented with native yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. After malolactic fermentation, the wine matures for 12–14 months in 600-liter old oak barrels, ensuring subtle oak influence and preservation of fresh fruit and mineral notes. On the nose, expect a bouquet of red cherries, wild strawberries, crushed violets, and graphite. The palate is lively and precise, with polished tannins, zesty acidity, and a saline-mineral backbone that lends remarkable length. Flavors of raspberry coulis, pomegranate, lavender, and a hint of tobacco leaf evolve through the finish. Structured yet elegant, this Saumur-Champigny pairs beautifully with roasted poultry, ratatouille, charred lamb, and aged goat cheese. While approachable now, it rewards patience—cellaring up to 8–10 years will reveal greater complexity and tertiary aromas.
