Terroir and Winemaking

Nestled in the rolling hills of the Cahors appellation, the Noir de Casteyrac estate benefits from limestone and clay soils that lend minerality and structure to the wine. The warm, sunny days and cool nights of Southwest France help the Malbec grapes reach full ripeness while preserving natural acidity.

Tasting Notes

Appearance

A deep, almost inky ruby core with garnet edges.

Aroma

Enticing nose of black cherry, blackberry compote, violets and a hint of black pepper and graphite.

Palate

Full-bodied and robust, with firm yet silky tannins, layers of dark fruit, baking spices and a touch of leather. The finish is long, warm and structured, promising excellent aging potential.

Food Pairing and Serving

Noir de Casteyrac pairs beautifully with grilled rib-eye steak, duck confit, lamb tagine or mushroom risotto. Also an ideal match for mature cheeses such as Roquefort or aged Comté. Serve at 16–18 °C (60–64 °F).

Ageing Potential

Thanks to its sturdy tannic backbone and balanced acidity, this Cahors AOP wine can cellar gracefully for 5–10 years or more, developing tertiary notes of leather, tobacco and forest floor.
