Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux: This is the current major appellation (which encompasses former designations such as Premières Côtes de Blaye). It primarily produces red wines (approximately 90% to 95%) dominated by Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec. Dry white wines are also produced here, based on Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, and Muscadelle.
The reds are often supple, fruity, rounded, and spicy, with good aging potential (5 to 10 years). The whites are fresh, lively, and characterized by citrus notes.
