About Domaine Christophe Mittnacht

Founded in 1985 by Christophe Mittnacht in Traubach-le-Bas, the estate spans over 15 hectares of hillside vineyards. Rooted in biodynamic and organic principles, the winery champions low-impact viticulture to express true Alsace terroir.

Terroir & Vinification

Soil and Climate

The Terres d’Etoiles vineyard is planted on marl and limestone soils at 260–320 meters elevation, benefiting from a continental climate with warm summers and cool nights. This diurnal temperature shift preserves acidity and enhances aromatic complexity.

Harvest and Aging

Hand-harvested in early September, the grapes undergo gentle whole-berry fermentation in stainless steel. After malolactic conversion, the wine matures for 8–10 months in neutral oak barrels, adding structure without overpowering its fresh fruit character.

Tasting Notes

Terres d’Etoiles Pinot Noir displays a bright ruby color. On the nose, expect wild strawberry, Morello cherry, forest floor, and a hint of white pepper. The palate is medium-bodied with silky tannins, lively acidity, and a savory, mineral finish.

Food Pairing & Aging Potential

This versatile Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with roast duck, mushroom risotto, herb-crusted pork, and soft cheeses like Brie or Camembert. Enjoy now through 2028 for optimal freshness, or cellar for up to 5 years to gain additional complexity.
