The Bourgueil appellation is one of the jewels of the Loire Valley wine region, located in Touraine on the right bank of the Loire River.
Recognized as an AOC (Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée) since 1937, it primarily produces red wines with distinct character, alongside a small quantity of rosés—all made almost exclusively from the Cabernet Franc grape variety.
Although Bourgueil and Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil are neighboring appellations that share the same grape variety (Cabernet Franc), they exhibit clear, nuanced differences shaped by their respective terroirs, styles, and geographical locations.
