The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Tychson Hill Vineyard is fresh and vibrant, with great fragrance (blueberry, black and red currants, licorice and graphite, as well as floral notes). It is stunningly fruity and full-bodied, with remarkable purity and texture, and combined with the gorgeous fragrance, fabulously concentrated with a nearly perfectly balanced mouthfeel and finish. This amazing wine should continue to develop for another 25 or more years
The 2005 Colgin IX Estate 005 "IX Estate"
The 2005 Colgin "IX Estate" is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot. The 2005 vintage marks the fourth year we've produced our proprietary red blend from the new estate, and now we are truly experiencing the amazing potential of this site's terroir. "IX Estate" completely blows away the myth that wines from young vines are not as complex as those from older vines. That being said, as these vines continue to mature and are managed with our meticulous methods, "IX Estate" will no doubt become the new hallmark of Colgin. With the 2005 vintage as a gauge, there really is no doubt. We dropped nearly 75% of the crop to the ground in 2005 in order to maximize color and flavor and here are the results:

Notes from the Estate:

With a color saturation of purple ruby, this wine feels difficult to resist. First impressions on the nose reveal roasted herbs, grilled meat juices, juniper berry, black cherries and chocolate liqueur. Secondary aromas of terroir evolve out of this wine, such as wet clay, crushed rock, lavendar and mineral. On the palate, the wine has a supple entry with layers of lusciously textured tannin. A fresh natural acidity brings just the right amount of structure to the palate. The finish is vibrant and long. This wine was aged sur lees for 20 months and was racked just before blending and bottling in June 2007. The 2005 "IX Estate" will age for 30 or more years, but will also drink well in 4-6 years near term.
