The lands of Château Pontet-Canet are located in the heart of the Pauillac appellation, south of the neighboring vineyards of Mouton Rothschild and Armailhac. Here it is the poverty of the earth that serves as a matrix for the greatest wines. The soil seems composed only of gravel and sand, and it is difficult to imagine that the vine can grow there. The 80 hectares of the vineyard of Pontet-Canet see the pre-eminence of the Cabernet Sauvignon grape, a well-known signature of the great Pauillac wines. This demanding and difficult variety is perfectly adapted to the climatic and geological conditions of Pauillac. It gives structured wines, structured, able to a long guard, known for their finesse and their elegance. According to Medocan tradition, it is combined with merlot and cabernet franc, which bring a necessary touch of suppleness and charm. In some vintages, petit verdot adds a touch of complexity to this blend.
