The Castle of Candale originates from Lady Margaret of Suffolk Kandall, descendant of Edward III, King of England and Duke of Aquitaine. His marriage to Count Jean de Foix in the 15th century allowed him to add to his titles that of Comte de Candale. The Count and the Countess of Foix-Candale enjoyed at their table the wines of their fief of Saint-Émilion, already famous at that time thanks to the demanding quality rules issued by the Jurade of Saint-Émilion.
