Château Ferrière 1996
Along with the 1995, this is the finest Ferriere I have ever tasted. The 1996 is an opaque purple-colored, sweet wine, with plenty of dense berry fruit, lavish quantities of new oak, and a mineral, oaky character that enhances the wine. It is medium-bodied, full, and deep, although somewhat monolithic. If more complexity emerges, this could turn out to be a sleeper of the vintage, although I do not see it ever meriting an outstanding rating. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2020.
